Paris on Parade

Al Thani Collection // Hotel de la Marine

Curator of the Al Thani Collection Dr. Amin Jaffer offered us a special private visit of the new exhibition "Medieval Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum: When the English Spoke French," showcasing over 70 remarkable masterpieces of medieval art. The selection underscores the intricate relationship between England and Continental Europe during the Middle Ages.

Sourced from the extensive medieval art collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the exhibit spans diverse creations from England, France, Italy, and beyond, providing a glimpse into the vibrant international artistic culture of the era. The showcased artifacts encompass sculpture, textiles, ceramics, ivories, manuscript illumination, metalwork, jewelry, enameled pieces, and stained glass, featuring iconic works like the Gloucester Candlestick, the Becket Casket, the Clare Chasuble, and the Luck of Edenhall.

Studio Visit // Eva Jospin

Paris-based artist Eva Jospin has been shaping imaginative forest and architectural landscapes for fifteen years, spanning various artistic forms. Recognized with the Prix de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2015, she gained further acclaim through exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo and the Palazzo Dei Diamanti. Notable for her versatility, Jospin has crafted monumental installations at iconic locations, often out of cardboard, such as the Cour Carrée du Louvre and the Abbey of Montmajour.

Collaborating with Dior for fashion shows underscores her influence beyond traditional art spaces. With permanent works like "Folie" at Chaumont-sur-Loire and "La Traversée" in Paris, Jospin leaves a lasting mark on public spaces. In 2022, she unveiled "Microclima" in Milan. The upcoming year promises a global presence with over twenty works in art fairs and solo exhibitions in Brussels and Avignon. Eva Jospin's imaginative landscapes continue to captivate audiences worldwide.

Mark Rothko // Fondation Louis Vuitton

An exploration of Mark Rothko's artistic journey, the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s retrospective of the artist marks the first in France since 1999. Housing 115 works sourced from international collections, the exhibition unfolds chronologically, offering a narrative of Rothko's career. Starting with intimate scenes of 1930s New York, the showcase delves into Rothko's shift to abstract expressionism in 1946 and unveils the vibrant "classic" works of the 1950s. Noteworthy pieces include the retained wall paintings commissioned for the Four Seasons restaurant in 1958 and the Phillips Collection's dedicated "Rothko Room." Exploring Rothko's evolving palette, the exhibition challenges preconceived notions, inviting viewers into a nuanced dialogue with his artistry. Set against the architectural backdrop of the Frank Gehry building, the retrospective promises a contemplative journey through the multifaceted expressions of Rothko's craft.

CMS Collection & Dinner at Dr. François Sarkozy’s

Joanna Chevalier, Hervé Mikaeloff, and François Sarkozy, three avid art afficionados, have transcended mere conversation about art to real action with the birth of CMS Collection. Their inaugural exhibition showcased emblematic pieces from their collection. Collaborating with François Laffanour and Galerie Downtown Paris, renowned for 20th and 21st-century furniture, the exhibition merged fine art with designer pieces, creating a compelling dialogue between the realms of art and design.

The trio invited the International Board for a champagne cocktail viewing of the exhibition, with a mixed-media group performance by a contemporary digital artist, violinist, and dancer. Afterwords, Dr. Sarkozy invited us to a private dînatoire at his 17th arrondissement home.
