Vienna: Erwin Wurm

A contemporary artist known for his innovative and thought-provoking work that spans sculpture, performance, and video art, Erwin Wurm was a thrill to meet. Emerging in the late 20th century, Wurm gained international acclaim for his exploration of the intersection between paradox, philosophy, and the human body. He is perhaps best known for his "One Minute Sculptures," interactive and often absurd installations that challenge traditional notions of sculpture and viewer participation. Wurm's art is characterized by a playful and irreverent spirit, tackling themes of consumerism, identity, and the human condition.

Upon his invitation, we travelled to Limberg, about one hour’s drive from Vienna, to visit him in his castle-turned-studio. We were enthralled by his work as we moved from warehouse to warehouse on the property, before a traditional picnic table luncheon in the shade of a pine tree. We toured his home on the property, filled with art from his own collection. The stunning property and its art were topped only by the hospitality of the artist, his family, and his team. We had such a fabulous time that absolutely no one wanted to leave!
