While many of us were enthralled by the multifarious offerings on view in Basel, the Palais de Tokyo launched its new Summer season of exhibitions. Marked by an innovative use of the Palais’s cavernous, underground spaces, these exhibitions seek to take advantage of the cooler lower floors and transform them into further places of discovery.

While in Kochi, we visited several artist’s studios engaged in active creation around the Biennale. Among them, we met with Zakkir Hussain, Sujith S.N. and Upendranath T R.

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an artistic experience taking place every two years in Fort Kochi aiming to introduce contemporary global visual art theory and practice to India, while also invoking the latent cosmopolitan spirit of the modern metropolis of Kochi and its mythical past, Muziris.

Following the opening of the NMACC, many from our group made the pilgrimage down to Kochi to see the closing days of the Kochi Biennale. The city's diverse blend of architecture, cuisine, and customs is a testament to its cosmopolitan nature, forged over centuries of cultural interchange since its days as a prominent port in the spice trade.

The Mumbai contemporary gallery scene is bustling and current. We received warm welcomes at Project 88, Jhaveri Contemporary, Experimenter, Isa, Mirchandani + Steinruecke, and Chemould, where at each stop we had the opportunity to experience a different facet of Indian art.

Jitish Kallat and Reena Kallat, two renowned artists of Indian origin, have made significant contributions to the contemporary art scene with their thought-provoking and visually captivating works. Jitish's artistic explorations encompass a wide range of mediums, while Reena's multidisciplinary approach combines art, installation, and social commentary, resulting in powerful narratives that engage viewers on various levels.

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, born out of a lifelong passion for the arts, is a tribute to India's rich heritage and traditions. It is a platform to spotlight the best of Indian arts and culture, providing an inclusive space for performers, visitors, dreamers, and creators alike. With world-class infrastructure and a commitment to accessibility, the NMACC aims to nurture and inspire talent while bringing people together from all corners of India and the world.

Dynamic, exciting, and absolutely immense, Mumbai is a city of fascinating art and architecture. As an International Board, we had the pleasure of visiting the city upon the invitation of our fellow member, Isha Ambani, to celebrate the opening of the new Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Centre.
